Since the launch of the Heart of Glasgow award in November, we’ve been inundated with nominations that shine a light on the many incredible people who go the extra mile to make a difference to others, their communities and Glasgow. We’re looking forward to sharing the feel-good stories of these inspirational individuals.
The first ever recipient of our Heart of Glasgow award is Julie Toal who works at the Brunswick Centre based in the north of Glasgow. Julie was nominated by her colleague, Ashton who told us that Julie is an amazing role model to all the staff and volunteers at the centre, as well as the hundreds of young people and families she helps.
Julie started volunteering at the Brunswick Centre as a teenager, and due to all her hard work and effort is now their Assistant Operations Manager. Over the years she has always put the community before herself, providing youth clubs, mental health classes, helping children into education and employment, and most recently organising the provision of over 500 food packages per week to families in need during lockdown.
We don’t think we could have picked a more deserving recipient of our first Heart of Glasgow award – well done Julie!
