Glasgow Credit Union staff raise £750 for Macmillan Cancer Care

Glasgow Credit Union Macmillan fundraising

Big-hearted Glasgow Credit Union staff have raised a whopping £750 for Macmillan Cancer Care!

In addition to the credit union’s Giving Glasgow fund – which helps improve the communities our member live in through donations to local charities and good causes – our kind-hearted staff often get together socially, to fundraise as a team, choosing charities personal to them and their families.

Last week, our underwriters hosted an afternoon tea party to support MacMillan, and invited the rest of the staff along to take part in a charity auction and a pub-style quiz, raising an incredible £372 for the charity. The credit union promised to match all funds raised, and have added an additional £378 to the fundraising pot, bring the overall total to £750.

About Macmillan Cancer Care

Macmillan support people diagnosed with cancer, helping them to take back some control in life. They provide practical support and advice around the issues we often forget that people diagnosed with cancer face – like money worries and absence from work – whilst also providing emotional support and a friendly ear. One in three people will face cancer, and fundraising like this helps Macmillan make sure no one has to face it alone. And because cancer affects more than just the patient, Macmillan are there for friends and family too.

What will our fundraising do?

The £750 raised by Glasgow Credit Union staff could:

  • Pay for the hire of venue space, to allow a self help support group to be there for each other when they need to be, for two years.
  • Stock a Macmillan centre with all the things needed to help support families of loved ones affected by cancer, for almost three months.
  • Provide 28 people with one on one Macmillan support, immediately after they’ve been told they have cancer.
