In January 2017, members voted the Beatson Cancer Charity as our charity partner for the year. The charity exists to enhance and support the lives of the 8,000 new patients that they welcome through their doors each year. They provide a range of complimentary therapies, a hairdressing and wig-fitting service, specialist clinical posts, pioneering research projects and a variety of specialist equipment.
To kick start our fundraising, we pledged to donate £1 for every like we received of our new Facebook page. Through the fantastic support of our members (and non-members!) we were able to donate £1,341 to the Beatson.
Staff at the credit union have also been busy fundraising in a variety of ways, including setting up an office tuck-shop, running £5 Friday prize draws and even taking part in Off the Beaston Track, a 10k walk around Glasgow, which helped to raise a further £5,000 for the charity.
Members will again have the opportunity to vote for a nominated charity partner in January 2018.
