Things to do in Glasgow this Easter

Easter. The time of year which brings longer days, cute lambs, chocolate eggs and hopefully some time off with the family. So long winter, spring is here!

There are plenty of ways to celebrate this time of the year in Glasgow, with many of our top picks costing little, if anything to keep you entertained.

Go dippy for a dinosaur

Dippy, the famous Diplodocus is in Glasgow on loan from London’s Natural History Museum. He’s only in Glasgow until 6th May before he’s moved on to another city, so you’d better go soon.

Meet Trix the Tyrannosaurus Rex

Trix is one of the three most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons in the world. Step back in time to see the 66-million-year-old fossil in this blockbuster exhibition, which also features a range of interactive exhibits.

Easter Fun at St. Enoch

Shoppers of all ages should hold on to their bonnets as they take on the new Easter maze. Located on the ground floor outside Boots, young shoppers can find their way through the maze, the perfect place for an Easter themed hunt!

Youngsters will also have the chance to get creative with a host of Easter-themed arts and crafts activities and there will also be a range of chocolate goodies up for grabs for budding artists.

Get active on the banks of the Clyde

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing stroll along the riverbank or an action-packed bike trail and bouldering session, there’s plenty to do at one of Glasgow’s newest parks – Cuningar Loop. Great for a family day out, there are plenty of picnic tables and an adventure playpark to keep the little ones entertained.

Pictures and peonies at the Botanics

Running every day throughout April in the Botanic Gardens’ Tearoom, an art exhibition and sale is being held by a group of local amateur artists. You could pick up a new piece of art for your home while supporting local talent – and then go for a leisurely stroll through one of Glasgow’s most beautiful parks.

It’s time to start running!

If you’re looking for a way to shake off winter, and work-off the Easter chocolate calories – how about starting a Spring resolution to go running? With over 90 parks and gardens in Glasgow, you just need to decide where to go! Or if you’re looking for some extra motivation, you could take part in an organised Parkrun. An adult 5K Parkrun is held every Saturday morning at Pollok Park, and there are even 2K kid’s Parkruns on Sunday mornings at Victoria Park and Rouken Glen Park.

Experience life in the countryside

The National Museum of Rural Life is running a series of Easter events for children and families. Their ‘Go Wild in Spring’ sessions focus on bees, with activities including candle making, and a waggle dance workshop, while their ‘Spring into Easter’ sessions will feature lambs, chicks, music and storytelling! As well as the special Easter activities, the museum has lots to keep little ones entertained including tractors, a working farm and a garden detectives area.

James and the Giant’s Peach

If you’re happy to travel a little further than Glasgow, the Kelburn Estate and Country Centre is holding a giant peach hunt! All tickets include full access to Kelburn grounds so make sure you take the time to explore the glen, visit the walled gardens and relax in the great outdoors.

Easter Fayre Fun

Join The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice for a cracking day out for all the family at their Easter Fayre on Saturday 20th April.

This fun-filled day out includes an exciting Easter egg hunt, face painting, arts and crafts and much more for the children, as well as some brilliant shopping stalls for the adults.

Inflatable Fun City

The Inflatable Fun City will be at Glasgow Green between the 19th to the 22nd April. Open every day from Midday until 6pm, there is hot food, cold drinks and other refreshments available on site. There are also prize-winning stalls and games to be played too. (Please note: food, drinks, refreshments and prize-winning games are cash only).

Age group to use the inflatables is 2 – 12-year-olds. Adults are not permitted to use the inflatables.
